Most date night ideas in Athens come down to a table for two and a menu. This one is different. The first hour you stand next to each other with flour on your forearms; the rest of the evening you sit at a long table eating what you made. Wine throughout. The conversation takes care of itself.
The Pizza & Wine Evening runs Thursday to Saturday at 19:30 and lasts three hours. Adults only, €85 per person: two pizzas you make, one from the kitchen, a sweet pizza, and three Greek wines from small producers. Prefer daylight? The afternoon class at 12:30 or 16:00 is €65.
Knack & Snack is a pizzeria with an art gallery on the lower floor, at Persefonis 7 in Kerameikos. The oven is the restaurant's own and the instructor is one of the pizzaioli who works it at night. You are not in a classroom. You are in a working kitchen, for one evening.
Why a pizza evening works as a date
Dinner dates have a known problem: you sit opposite each other and wait for the food. Here you stand side by side and make it. Stretching dough is slightly difficult the first time, which gives you something to laugh at. By the second base you are both better and the pizzas look like pizzas.
The format also removes the awkward pauses. The instructor sets the pace, there is a glass in your hand from the first minute, and a few other people in the room are doing the same thing. Nobody is watching you. A good first date for that reason, and a good tenth anniversary for the same one.
How the pizza and wine evening in Athens runs
You arrive at 19:30. A glass of sparkling wine from the Peloponnese is waiting while the dough balls come out and the instructor explains what 72 hours of fermentation does. Then you stretch: two bases each, by hand, no rolling pin. The first tears for most people. The second does not.
Topping is where couples get competitive. The table has San Marzano tomatoes, fior di latte, Parmigiano Reggiano, fresh basil and the house combinations named after art movements. A Rinascita is the classic; a Barocca gets burrata. Your pizzas get about ninety seconds in the oven and come out in rounds to the long table.
Between your two rounds the kitchen sends one of its own pizzas with the second wine, introduced in a sentence or two. The evening closes with a sweet pizza and the third wine. You leave with the dough recipe card and the photos the team took during the session, sent the same day.
First dates, anniversaries, proposals
For a first or second date, book two seats on the public evening. You are part of a group of up to twelve, which keeps the pressure low. For an anniversary the same applies; mention the occasion when you book so the instructor knows whether to make a small fuss, or none.
Proposals are a different question. For the room to yourselves, the private workshop starts at six people, from €55 per person, any day or time agreed. Bring four friends or family and you have the gallery floor, your own instructor and the playlist. Your own cake is welcome at no charge. On a public evening, tell the team when you book so they can time it between courses.
- Two people: public Pizza & Wine Evening, €85 each
- Two people, daytime: Neapolitan Pizza Class, €65 each
- Six or more: private slot from €55 per person, any day
The room: a gallery, not a restaurant
You make the pizzas at the restaurant's own oven and eat them at the long table on the gallery floor: 90 m², tiled floors, white walls and whatever exhibition is up that month. Gallery lighting flatters pizza more than you would expect. The stage, projector and sound system are for stand-up nights, pop-ups and DJ sets on other evenings.
The courtyard, 22 m² and open air, is where people step out between courses. There is also a smaller first floor of 30 m². The restaurant is open 18:00 to 01:00 every day, no reservations, so if the evening goes well and you are not ready to leave, stay and order a Barocca.
Food, wine and dietary needs
The dough is Neapolitan: type 00 flour, 72-hour fermentation, baked fast and hot. Toppings are the restaurant's own, so what you make is the pizza the kitchen serves at night. The three wines come from small Greek producers, one per course, each with a short introduction. A non-alcoholic pairing costs the same.
Vegan toppings are always on the table. Gluten-free dough is available if you ask 48 hours ahead. The kitchen works with wheat, dairy and nuts, so there is no guarantee of zero cross-contact; if that matters to one of you, say so when you book and the team will plan the topping table around it.
Practical: getting there, what to wear, language
Persefonis 7 is a short walk from Kerameikos metro on Line 3. Thiseio on Line 1 also works. Do not drive; parking in Kerameikos is hard and a taxi is cheaper than circling. Public sessions are taught in English. The instructors are Greek pizzaioli, so a question in Greek gets an answer in Greek.
Wear something that can get floury, tie long hair back and wear closed shoes. This is not the evening for the silk shirt. Photos are taken during the session; if either of you would rather not be in them, tell the instructor at the start. You are out by 22:30, which still leaves the rest of Kerameikos.
Booking, prices and gift cards
Pick a date and send a WhatsApp to +30 697 908 6915 or an email to info@knackandsnack.com with the date, the session and how many of you. The team replies within one working day, Monday to Friday 11:00 to 18:00, with a payment link. Thursdays are easiest to get; Saturdays go first.
To give the evening as a present, a gift card covers a class or any amount from €25. It arrives by email and is valid for 12 months, so the other person picks the date. Cancellation is free up to 48 hours before; after that, the seats move once within six months.
Is a couples cooking class actually romantic?
Fair question. It depends on the two of you. If you like doing things together more than being served together, yes. If one of you is a control freak about the oven, also yes, for different reasons. It is loud at times, there is flour on the floor, and nobody dims the lights for you.
What it does well is give you something to talk about on the way home: the second wine, the pizza that stuck to the peel, the person at the end of the table who put pineapple on. Among romantic things to do in Athens, it is one of the few where you leave with a recipe. And you ate three pizzas.

Questions
Can we book just the two of us?
Yes. Public sessions run from one to twelve people, so a couple is a normal booking. You share the room with a few other pairs and small groups. Fewer than four people and the session is moved or refunded with 24 hours' notice.
Which is better for a date, the evening or the afternoon class?
The evening, if you drink wine and want it to feel like a night out: three courses, three wines, three hours. The afternoon class is shorter, €65, with one drink. It suits a daytime date or a city break where the evening is already planned.
Can I propose during the session?
You can. Tell the team when you book and they will time it between courses. For the room to yourselves, book a private slot for six or more. On a public evening the other guests will notice, which some people want.
Do I need to know how to cook?
No. The instructor shows every step and you stretch two bases, so the first one is allowed to go wrong. Most people's second pizza looks right. No experience needed and nothing to know beforehand.
Is it taught in English or Greek?
Public sessions are taught in English. The instructors are the restaurant's pizzaioli and they speak Greek, so Athenian couples can ask in Greek and get an answer in Greek. Private slots can run entirely in Greek.
What if we need to cancel?
Free cancellation up to 48 hours before, with a full refund. After that, your seats move once to another date within six months. A no-show is not refunded. Gift cards are valid for 12 months.
